Gros is a duo consisting of Willhelm Bohman and Henrik Johansson. They are originally from Skara, Sweden, but in the last couple of years they have been living in Spain for periods during art studies and work. Willhelm and Henrik have been working together before in various projects as well as by themselves.

This is Gros second album and it was released when both the band and the label were moving back to Sweden. It starts with the tangible tripped out title track "radio Islas" as an intro to the album. On the second track "nardi” the music glides in to the more typical sound of this record. Overall, the music has a very warm and analogish kind of feeling to it, with a lot of synth leads and blipping sounds. Retrofuturistic is another good word to describe their sound. Cause on one hand, there are similarities to the electronic music in the 70's and 80's such as Kraftwerk, Tangerine dream, David Bowie and the Japanese electronic guru Logic system. And on the other hand there are as much echoes from the modern electronica you will find on, for example, the Warp or Mille Plateaux labels. They have managed to get all those influences and still make it sound personal. But if I had to compare their music with others, I would say they’re in the same sphere as Boards of Canada and Plone with a more palpable Kraftwerk touch. The songs I like best on "Radio...” are the laidback "bruma zurriola", the electropop jewel "beni irish" and the Logic system-scented "alas".

The musical quality is high throughout and it has a cosy philosophic mode. It's a perfect soundtrack to summer nights to come. The only downside to this album would be the production that tends to sound flat, especially when listening through the whole album. A broader and more distinct frequency spectrum would definitely be an improvement. And if that's done until the next release, it will sure be a masterpiece. Cause they already got what's most important while making music, the ability to write good songs.
