This is a compilation by Geska Records, and it’s a concept album. The concept is the Tree of Life described as follows:
“The Tree of Life describes the incarnation process. The soul begins unified with source. The individuation begins with the first three spheres. This could be compared to the loss of childhood innocence. The process continues up the tree into the realm of soul, and then spirit. Finally, the separating desire exhausted desire for return to source results in unity, at the end”.
This is just one of many “new age” sections that are contained within the album cover. With this outlook you realize that this can go two ways. Either it’s a concept album like Leatherstrips “Serenade for the Dead”, which grabs a hold of you and brings you on a journey into another realm. Sadly Sonic Visions lack that feel, that edge, that something. This sounds more like something from a low budget video/computer game. The music is beat driven trance, on the edge of being mainstream techno. Having said this, I am sure you could dance to this, but after reading the booklet I don’t think that was the main intention. The feeling that I get is that I could never, by listening to the music, determine what the concept behind this album is. I have not heard any of the participating artists other work, so I can’t say if this is how they usually sound, but I sure hope not.
