Normally electropop isn’t my cup of tea, but after spending a couple of days with Ganymede I find myself singing along to almost every song. This is light weight analogue electropop in the veins of Pet Shop Boys that at times remind me a lot of S.P.O.C.K. At times I find the production to be too soft, but on the other hand I easily get attracted to electropop with clear good vocals and sing-a-long tunes.
The best track is without competition “Distance”. I first fell for the remix available on the bonus disc, but later found the original version to be almost as good. At times it sounds as if a young Neil Tennant handles the vocals. The remix called FR/Action Mix is a bit heavier, a bit more club oriented and a bit more Pet Shop Boys.
Ganymede isn’t a clone of Pet Shop Boys in any way, but still it is the one reference I return to. That is probably due to the fact that I find very few bands in the electropop genre worth listening to. Most of the time it is either bad songs, bad vocals, or both.
This is an album full of good production, good vocals and catchy-like-a-cold melodies. And as an extra treat the bonus disc holds the video for “Daylight”, some pictures, all the lyrics and a PC video game called “Eternal” which I haven’t played so I won’t review it. The only thing that disturbs me is the fact that it becomes a bit boring listening to it from start to finish, the songs are too uniform, so I definitely prefer the remix CD since it offers more variation. Still “Space and Time” sounds fresh and has a definite summer feel which appeals to me.
