[Brus] is the one-man project of Andreas Wallgren, where he does everything
by himself, and "Rest of Man" is his first album. And a very short one indeed.
The eight tracks last for only 28 minutes. The music is naked, calm and very
sincere. [Brus] definitely add something to the otherwise overpopulated
synthpop scene. Unfortunately "Rest of Man" is not a very good album. It
is very hard to label [Brus], perhaps Marc Almond influences him, perhaps
not. The music is slow and peaceful, a lot of piano and strings with
an old drum machine tapping the beat. The songs are good and the
arrangements too, even if the production feels lame occasionally. But the
singing; like so many other do-it-all-by-himself-musicians, Andreas
Wallgren can't sing. I'm sure he has a lot of emotions and feelings laid
down in the lyrics and want to sing them by himself. He should not.
The first track, "Ad infinitium" starts of good with
guitar and horns, a quite good synth pop tune, and then it is the singing.
Most of the songs are decent pop tunes, some of them are even catchy, but
after a while it gets hard to separate them, they all sound the same.
"Evigheten" stands out as a beautiful and melancholic piece that shows that
Andreas Wallgren has all the ability it takes to create good songs. But
again, the vocal track is there and drags down the impression. As a debut
"Rest of Man" is acceptable, but until next time; get a new singer.

I guess this writer should learn one thing. That it's Andreas singing style that he just doesn't like. But "CAN'T SING"?!! That's the silliest thing i've read in a long time.
Andreas is a great singer, and i mean GREAT. He has his own singing style - and you probably just don't deal with such styles. Dear Ulf Lundblad - please explain yourself. In comparison to many synthpopvocalists he has his own vocal identity, and it sure isn't false. You cannot say it and mean it!!!
I can see no reason why BRUS should get a new singer... You must be crazy...

I give it eight out of ten. Simply wonderful. Synthpop without the all to common MementoMateria-sound.
