"Electro Age I: The Awakening" is the first release from Latex Records; it’s a compilation with everything from slow ambient tunes to faster club tracks.
The CD starts off with a few rather slow tracks, but with nice beats. When reaching track four (Glis – "Nightvision") I get a bit confused and wonder if it’s still the same CD I am listening to, because that song really makes you want to get up and dance, with it’s catchy synth-lines and lyrics which grows on you quickly.
Another favourite on "Electro Age I" is ThouShaltNot – "Without Faith” which is a rather synthpoppy track when it comes to the voice and lyrics, but with harder distorted drums.
The only song which I don’t really feel fit in here is the last one, Music For The Goddess – "Round and Round” with it’s acoustic guitars and other “traditional” instruments. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against these kinds of instruments but this song that makes me think of some Irish folksong is kind of boring.
Most bands on this compilation are unknown to me but I think many of them have promising careers ahead of them. All in all, I think this first volume is a pretty interesting thing, which should appeal to anyone into ambient stuff and also harder beats. I also really look forward to the next volume in the series to see what they bring us then.
