Intravenous is the first full-length album from the Swedish band Z Prochek. Having heard a few of their old demo tracks and their cover of The Klink’s “Moving Hands” (which you can download from Moving Hands) I have always regarded them as another Assemblage 23/Icon Of Coil-clone with no own sound at all. Therefore I’m happily surprised to hear that this album contains a lot of new influences as well as really good production.

The first two tracks; “One Last Time” and “Point Blank”, sounds like they could have been written by Tom Shear (A23) and are both well produced. The next track; “Sun Doesn’t Die”, shows more imaginative song writing with almost trip hop-ish influences and good use of a female voice. The two following tracks; “In My Mind (Album Version)” and “Inflamed”, once again is formula A futurepop in my ears but after that it gets more interesting. “Memories” and “Heal” shows a more aggressive side and the later has a bass line that reminds me of And One somehow. “Claim” has a really old school EBM-sound to it and will do just fine on the dance floor. Nothing special but it works just for the charm in it. “The One” also is 100% dance stuff but with a more techno edge. “Desperare” is a slow moody track once again with female lyrics but I don’t think it really gets anywhere. “Here with you” starts out with a good aggressive beat but the chorus is weak and suffers too much from the before mentioned A23-syndrome (I don’t know what the voice effect is called but it’s making the singers voice almost identical to Tom Shear's, please stop). “Words” ends this album and sounds mostly like more futurepop to me.

I must say that even though this album suffers too much of an identity crisis it is still a very strong release as it is the debut album. The production gets top marks and the song writing is solid although the influences are a bit too obvious for my taste. If this was 1996 instead of 2002 I would have given it top ratings but there are too many other bands doing this sort of music these days. But who knows, the next release might be something very special!

I dont give a crap what anyone says, Z PROCHEK IS AWESOME!!!!!!!, all their songs on the first cd rock!, wicked EBM/synthpop or industrial, whatever you want to classify it. Their second album VIEWERS is much much better though, i got them both and still listen to them at least once a week.

not good

Album goes downhill, like a bitch, after first few tracks. Don't waste your money, wait for Z Prochek to learn from their mistakes, then by second album.

Heh?

To DJ Gaffa; Decent synthpop? ehm, I think you are mixing up the genres. If you call this synthpop, than you schould really consider listening again. And what's wrong with the artwork? I don't get you...

Actually an oki synthpop album

Pretty decent synthpop album. "Pointblank" is a really cool track. But HORRIBLE .. HOOOORRRIBLE artwork ;/ .... wont appeal a lot of people with that artwork.... anyway.. the music is most important. And i really think this is worth checking out if you like bands like A23 etc. This should appeal to you for sure!

Melodic, hard, fresh and uplifting!

Probably one of the best albums this year (in its genre) and definately the best on Momento materia at the moment. A23/Icon of Coil/Hocico inspired but with its own, special flavour added. Melodic, hard, fresh and uplifting!
