I guess that you all are familiar with Funker Vogt, so I don't have to introduce them
further. They are however back with a new full length album, this time entitled
"Survivor". And what can I say; it sounds like I expected it to sound, that is Funker
Vogt. This time though, there are lots of future pop influences that haven't been
present before. For instance, the first track, "Date of Expiration" (also the first
single) has a synth lead that in the beginning sounds almost identical as the one VNV
Nation uses in "Procession" of their "Praise the Fallen" album. Though, I must admit
that it doesn't sound intentional, but it's still a fact. Part from that, it's a good
track that gives you a hint of what to expect during the rest of the album.
One thing that hasn't changed are the lyrics. They are still about war, war and what
else? Oh yes, more war. It is actually pretty amazing how you can drain a topic like
that! I have to give them some credits for this. Whatever your thoughts about Funker
Vogt are, I guess that you can admit that they sure can write good melodies and really
danceable songs. Like for instance "This World" and what I bet is the next big floorfiller,
"Lügner", which is also the only track sung in German. The band also presents some really
heavy beats in "Fallen Man".
Funker Vogt proves that they deserve to be one of the top acts of this type of music.
For me it gets pretty boring after a while though, because, apart from the future pop
sounds here and there, it sounds pretty much as usual. Maybe this is one of those bands
that doesn't want to make any progress, I don't know. I'm sure however that all you Funker
Vogt addicts out there will love this album.
