Before I say anything else, I would like to point out that I don't think it is the best marketing move to put a label on the jewel case that says: "Future pop with a vengeance". I would be put off by this and think that this album is probably a piece of crap and something that I have heard a million times before. Fortunately, for my narrow mind, I got to review this album and after a couple of minutes into the first song, "Vigilante", I realized that this is something else.
"Crimes of the Future" is the first album from Fr/action, a band that only consist of one man: David Friede. The CD is a concept album where we get to follow our hero on a journey of vigilantism, street crime and nocturnal urban decay. Music wise it sounds a lot like Apoptygma Berzerk and VNV Nation, like these type of bands usually do. But after a while I forget about those bands, since the music is so catchy and well produced that it at times send chills down my spine. Yes, I admit that I have
always been a sucker for catchy pop tunes, and listening through this album, I get overdose after overdose. The vocals are more or less vocoded. By this I mean that in some songs the vocoder is used more and on some less, but it is always there. I have said before that I enjoy the occasional use of a vocoder, but not during an entire album. I still stand by that, of course, and after a while into this album I get a little bit
tired of it. But, as it happens, it fits with the music very well and doesn't bother me that much.
A song that became a favorite right away is the extremely catchy tune "Crime Pays". Listening
to this track makes me wonder when the music world will run out of catchy melodies. It is that good. The album varies between fast and somewhat slow tunes, where the fastest one at 180 bpm, "Revolver", is a real floor filler. Among the slow ones we find, for instance, "Corrupt" and "Rolling Thunder", where the latter is a really nice instrumental piece.
It looks like I don't have much to complain about when it comes to Fr/action's debut. One thing I thought about, though, is that this album will probably just float by on a wave of many similar artists. It is pretty hard to find a structure and to separate the songs. Maybe that is intentional, I don't know. I do think, though, that it is not often that you hear such a well put together debut album. I wonder if they can top this...

How the hell did this album get a 7? It sounds like a demo release, not a well-produced album, it's horrible. It's bands like these that make me want to NOT listen to any futurepop at all.
Futurepop does not exist anymore. Why the f*** would you include "Futurepop with a vengeance" on the cd?? Futurepop and vengeance....two words that are STRONGLY tied to VNV Nation. GET A LIFE! Futurepop is dead anyway.
