Ned Kirby a.k.a Stromkern is back with his fourth album "Armageddon", now with Kelly Shaffer as an official second member of the band. The album starts off quite nice with the song "Terrorist" which right from the beginning reminds me of Ohgr. Especially the thrusting, hip hopish vocals which resembles Nivek Ogre's vocals on some tracks on Ohgr's latest release "Welt". Unfortunately this influence only shows on the first track. When the next song "Histories" begins it sounds like they have replaced the singer with someone else, who in my opinion can't sing at all. Or to be correct, he can sing, but you can tell that he tries to sing with lots of passion in his voice; too much passion, and to me, this just sounds stupid. I think that Kirby should relax a bit and not try too hard when he sings. This is really sad because the music is nearly excellent, catchy melodies and not too silly lyrics. This is pure ebm the way it should sound like. Of course I have some favorites on this album. "Terrorist" is an obvious choice, so are "Re-Align", "Nightriders" and "Armageddon". But the best song of all is "Perfect Sunrise" which has a feel of Euro pop. This might not sound like a good thing, but think of old Erasure tracks and you'll know what I'm talking about.

As I said, this is a great album and the band should really have lots of credits for doing their own thing and not trying to sound like everybody else. "Armageddon" is meant to make Stromkern famous in the US and not just in Europe as they are now. I hope they make it and I hope they re-think the vocals for their next release. My grade on this album would be much higher if it wasn't for the vocal performance by Ned Kirby. I mean, you can tell on some songs that he has a great voice and I hope he will make use of it more in the future. This album also comes as a limited edition box set which contains an eight track bonus EP called "Perfect Sunrise" with remixes by acts like Icon of Coil and others. You will also find a video for the track "Nightriders" on the bonus disc.

Y'all fools need to RECOGNIZE. Stromkern is the hotness on the real don't even front like you don't love Ned's flow. Boy's got the golden tongue, no doubt. SO STOP HATING. Haters.
