This band originally formed as a raw Black Metal duo back in the early nineties. Since then Morgul from Norway have travelled far on their path towards a more experimental sound, somewhat similar to what The Kovenant displayed on "Nexus Polaris".
I find it a bit hopeful that the guys in the metal genre finally dare to develop their music and genre. Far too many bands have spitted out very similar records throughout the years.
"Sketch of Supposed Murderer" holds great variety, coming from a metal act as this one. More extreme metal is balanced with easier going tracks such as "Truth, Liars And Dead Flesh" and a more experimental approach of tracks such as "Machine". Scary sounds and immense keyboard parts often lurks in the background, creating a catastrophic and powerful sound. Take some of Old Mans Child's brutality, add some The Sins of Thy Beloved and The Kovenant and you get a fair idea of what this release sounds like. Morgul differ from many other bands in this genre since they have both gothic and industrial elements in their music.
The vocals are in the laidback, puking form. Although varied at times, this kind of evil Black Metal shouting is just too horrible for my liking. This record gave me a mighty headache after listening to it a few times, but will most likely appeal to fans of The Kovenant and Dimmu Borgir.
