The German-Danish friendship Lights of Euphoria has been around since 1992 and is by now an established electronic act. This latest release from Lights of Euphoria contains six tracks of which five are remixes of the title track.
Musically it is close to a mixture of bands like Front 242, Funker Vogt and VNV Nation. Atmospheric synth patterns with pounding dance beats and the melodic chorus of the title track are the foundation of this release, and it really appeals to me occasionally. However, five remixes of the same track feels a bit unnecessary.
The ambient intro on the re-worked version of "Fortuneteller" and the metallic female voice proclaiming "I have no future" repeatedly until the bass line kicks in is really nice and is in my opinion the best track on this album. The following "voice mix" differs from the rest of the tracks with its more slow-going beat and darker sound, and the really nice female vocals that I would've liked to have heard more of. Project-X contributes with another mix typical to their style and so does Aghast, with the difference that they fail to impress me much.
The absence of distorted vocals is nice for a change, and with the catchy chorus that is both melancholic and suitable for the dancefloor; Lights of Euphoria suits me just fine.
