The single ”Never Surrender” is taken from the album “Making Monsters” and is a full blooded Combichrist track. No surprises here. Andy LaPlegua is talking through the verses accompanied with bit-crushed synths and steady beats and is ending up screaming “never surrender” through the refrains. It’s a hard and groovy track and quite accessible and easy to absorb.
IAMX is responsible for the first remix on the single. It’s a more controlled (but still groovy) version than the original and it sounds like IAMX has invited the whole automated steel factory to complete the remix.
Track number three is a remix by Sebastian Komor - under the name of Melt. Melt was one of Komor’s first bands in Norway and Andy LaPlegua did play keyboard in a few shows with the band - before Sebastian and Andy joined forces with Icon of Coil. Melt has now been restarted by Komor and this remix – an industrial rock mayhem - is maybe (and hopefully) a taste of what is to come.
Last remix is by Terence Fixmer. A peeled off version with resemblance of early DAF but passed through the Fixmer filter.
“Never Surrender” is a really good track and is guaranteed to be played in clubs all over the world. I don’t think, however, that it is a song that is going to last in playlists for a longer period of time.
