The duo from Västerås, Sweden, who is Johannes und der Täufer, have made a debut EP that is somewhat out of the ordinary. Songs are sung in German and clearly inspired by Die Neue Deutsche Welle. The vocals are in your face with a layer of old reverbs and delays, still I can't help myself hear some undertones of Swedish Hip-Hop in the singing. Bass and drums are light but danceable and there are a lot of C64 sounds.
In some of the tracks the bass-lines sound close to the sound of Sturmcafé. That's a bit boring I think. The production could also be a bit better. But the band possesses an interesting portion of directness and presence that many of todays electronic bands lack and I like that.
To sum it all up – with a more interesting production and some better songs, this band could be really promising in the future and might be compared with bands like Agent Side Grinder for instance.
