After having restarted the old machine Portion Control in 2004, Dean Piavani and John Whybrew have been busy. Five self-released full length albums (with all the extra work that comes with it) and numerous live shows. All highly praised by the audience and critics and by me too. Quite impressive for two older gentlemen.
Portion Control's musical formula is a blend of old school, repetitive, straight forward sequencer based electronics together with very up to date modern crispy soundscapes and beats. In contrast to the clean electronics is Dean's punkish vocals, miles away from today's generic EBM vocals.
Crop is a 2CD where the first CD has a selection of tracks taken from the albums released between 2004 and 2008. CD no 2 contains four unreleased tracks. A remake of the older "Brain Scraper Death Dive". A new remix of "Defend" - ntrsn version - a beat driven instrumental track Front 242 should be ashamed they haven't done. "Witness/Transmission Intro 01" - also instrumental with lots of industrial sounds and last the hard and classic EBM track "Amnesia09 beta.01" - a really promising sound of what to come next.
All of this released with the new collaborator Sigsaly Transmissions label on it.
