I'm proud to be Swedish when I establish that Funhouse surely are the masters of the fine art called gothic rock! That's no news though - they've been active for a number of years and got their breakthrough with the truly brilliant album "Never Again" which was released in 1996 and helped them achieve international success in the goth scene. In 1998 they released "The Second Coming" with a few masterpieces, two covers and a couple of fucked up remixes. Since "Never Again" now is deleted they've released this digitally remastered compilation with the absolute best from the two mentioned releases. It comes as no surprise that it kicks some serious ass!!!
"Forever True" contains intro, outro, a cover of "Body and Soul" and ten other songs (plus bonus tracks) which all are good. In fact, most of them are extremely good! It's the true essence of Funhouse - the true essence of gothic rock at its best. We have hits like "Forgive & Forget", "It Won't Happen Again" and "Stand Alone" taken from "Never Again". We also have the wonderful "Voices (Ever Lasting Trip Version)" which is a remix taken from "The Second Coming". The song was originally released on their first album "Girls". Included is also their best (?) song "Forever True" with its splendid guitar melodies and the, for Funhouse, traditional heartbreaking lyrics. It's simply an awesome gothic rock hit and I could only agree with my beloved one when she said, "this must be one of the best songs there are"!
If you haven't seen them live, then you've missed something. There's a legendary Funhouse anecdote about the guitarist Gajdos who once fell off the stage because he was slightly too drunk. Yeah, that's what we like! No pretentious perfect performance crap please. Funhouse is cool rock'n'roll! Further, if you haven't had the pleasure of listening to Funhouse I feel sorry for you. Now you have the chance to enlighten yourself, to repair this horrid lack of musical euphoria...

Reader Opinions
Not THAT great

I do think this review is somewhat slanted. Perhaps Funhouse are personal friends of ikon.
Funhouse are at their best moments capable of some quite good Mission-ripoffs. But the lyrics are very one-sided and get tiresome in the long run.
I don't like "perfect performance crap" either. But the way funhouse act on stage is just dumb. Not cool and not rock'n'roll, as I see it.
Not a bad album at all. Some good songs on there, but I couldn't bare listening to more than three in a row.
