“Supernature” is Goldfrapps third studio album, following up on the successful debut “Felt Mountain” and the excellent second album “Black Cherry”. The sound created by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory can best be described as smooth and crisp British pop with some electronic elements. There has always been a sexy touch to the music, mostly conveyed by Alison's vocals, and on “Supernature” they have decided to up play this fact, a not so wise move if you ask me. Apart from having an artistically nude Alison on the cover and in the booklet, the press release now describes the sound as sexy. The effect this has had, at least in my ears, is that the vibe that was there is totally gone. This in turn makes the music less interesting, and had this been their debut album I don’t think they would have been around today.
“Supernature” is radio pop, a notch better then the average songs that are played on the radio, but no way near as good as the first two albums. Lets all hope that this is just a weak release, and that Goldfrapp will get back to their old heights on their next album.
