It’s been a hectic year for Diorama, this being their third release in 2005. Previously they have released their forth full length album, Amaroid, as well an remastered rerelease of their debut album Pale.

Re-Pale is a remix album consisting of tracks mainly from the debut, with some songs from the other releases thrown in for good measure. I feel that Pale is Dioramas best release to date, sadly this doesn’t mean that the remixes add anything to the original songs. I am guessing that the idea here is to bring the Pale tracks more in line with the current Diorama sound, it’s just that I like the originals alot more. On the plus side there are some new tracks on this release too. Two of these tracks alone are what saves this disc, the first track “Drowned” and one of the last tracks “World of Ice” are truly great tracks, and it shows that Diorama still can make great music. Sadly some of the other new tracks are the ones that really bring this release down, “The rich are all perverted” and “Il bacio della realizzazione” are just that bad.

This release is for the fans, that’s a fact. There are a couple of great tracks on there that any fan of Diorama would hate to not have, on the other hand there is a lot of time fillers. If you are just getting into Diorama I say you should get the re-release of the debut album, it’s not only their strongest release to date, now you also get three unreleased bonus tracks.

I also feel that "Pale" is the best album Diorama has released. Probably this is due to the influence from Adrian Hates, of Diary of Dreams, that was evident on that first album. However, I also like much of the later records, even though they´re rather different from "Pale" in that they ditched most of the darkwave feel and gone for futurepopy dancefloor goodness instead. "Re-Pale" on the other hand is neither, and just feels...well...pointless. Get the regular "Pale" instead.

Pale was really good, but after that one I lost interest. It felt like Diorama jumped on the band-wagon when everything became disco! Pale was original and felt honest...
