A small guide to the summer of 2005
Now that we’ve entered April the festivals are beginning to take shape, and we thought it was about time to sum it up and write a short introduction to the interesting outdoor festivals.
First off is Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, May 13th to 16th. WGT has a huge roster, currently 154 acts have been presented. The roster includes acts such as Apoptygma Berzerk, Client, Dance Or Die, Hocico and the resurrection of Die Krupps.

In June, 16th to 18th, it is time for Swedish Hultsfredfestivalen where Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails will appear alongside his former antagonist/disciple Marilyn Manson. Yet another artist who has worked with Mr Reznor is also confirmed, Tori Amos. Other confirmed acts are Slayer, The Hives, Slipknot and Vive la Fête.

Next up is the Danish Roskilde Festival between Jun 30 and Jul 3 with The Be Good Tanyas, Autechre, Carl Cox, Duran Duran, Two Lone Swordsmen, Armand van Helden and others. The festival released another 100 acts on April 7th and has now an almost complete programme. Interesting additions to the roster are Chic, Datarock, Warren Suicide and the Dresden Dolls.

Dirty Black Summer is a small "homemade" festival with an approach that I find commendable and endorse. DBS takes place July 9-10 outside Stockholm, Sweden, and this year Red Cell, Phrank and Necro Facility are some of the acts confirmed.

In Arvika, Sweden, the programme is really taking shape. Infected Mushroom, :SITD: (first time in Sweden), and New Order strike me as the most interesting ones. But VNV Nation and welle:erdball are indisputably huge stars within their genre. Naturally their will also be a bunch of Swedish acts, Necro Facility, 8kHz Mono and Spetsnaz to name a few. Arvikafestivalen takes place between Jul 14 and 16.

Between July 22nd and 24th the German Zillo Festival takes place. The first day is a newcomer band contest and during the following two days established acts perform. These include New Model Army, Apoptygma Berzerk and Killing Joke.The Zillo Festival has been cancelled by Zillo partner and promotor Contour.

If you’re into ambient, noise, dub, click-hop, looping, 8-bit then the Norberg Festival is the place to be this summer. No artists confirmed at the moment though.

In August, 13-14, it is time for German M’era Luna where Sisters of Mercy and Skinny Puppy headline. Behind them there a lot of interesting stuff, for instance Flesh Field, Hocico and the Klinik will appear. In total there will be about 40 acts.
